Park Güell

Parque Güell, originally known as Park Güell, is a public park located in the upper part of Barcelona, in the Collserola mountain range.
This park, situated on the southern slope of Mount Carmel in the La Salut neighborhood of the Gràcia district, borders the Carmel Park in the El Carmel neighborhood of the Horta-Guinardó district.
The project, which began as a residential development, was designed by the renowned architect Antoni Gaudí at the request of businessman Eusebi Güell.
Its construction took place between 1900 and 1914, and in 1926 it was opened as a public park.
Park Güell is a manifestation of Gaudí’s artistic brilliance and belongs to his naturalist phase, which spans the first decade of the 20th century. During this period, Gaudí refined his personal style, drawing inspiration from the organic forms of nature and developing new structural solutions based on a deep study of geometry. This approach allowed him to create structures and ornamentation with great creative freedom and a rich variety of shapes and volumes, moving away from rationalism and classical principles.
In Park Güell, Gaudí showcased his architectural genius, experimenting with innovative structural solutions that would define his organicist style and reach their ultimate expression in the Sagrada Familia.
